Next time you’re settling in for a Netflix binge, why not mix in some career inspo too? Binging a whole season in one night is totally fine if you’re getting motivated, right? (we think yes). To help you out, we’ve rounded up 10 shows that will give you a heap of motivation, a good dose of wisdom and if nothing else – some entertainment for your weekend!

#1 Girlboss

This one’s both a very guilty-pleasure view, and one that’ll be sure to get you feeling like you want to start your own business ASAP. It follows Sophia Amoruso, who stumbles into creating the huge fashion empire, Nasty Gal. It’s all about entrepreneurship, resilience, and turning your passion into a career (which for Sophia, was finding vintage clothes that people wanted and reselling them!). It’s a must-watch for anyone interested in starting their own business or pursuing unconventional career paths.

#2 Dear White People

This series gives an inside look at the lived experiences of a group of students of colour, as they navigate living and studying at Winchester University, a predominantly white Ivy League College. The series shares important lessons in activism and leadership, as well as the importance of honouring and learning from diverse perspectives. And while this sounds like some pretty serious viewing, the witty writing makes sure there are a lot of laughs along the way. If you’re interested in social justice, education or any field where cultural competency and advocacy are crucial- then this one should be at the top of your list.

#3 Queer Eye

There are a million reasons why we love this series (even if every episode makes us bawl like babies) – but it’s also packed with lessons on confidence, people skills, and personal branding. It’s inspiring to see people embrace their true selves – and watching the Fab Five help people be as authentic as possible is a very important part of building your future (which we also cover a lot of in the program!). No matter what career path you’re on – self-confidence and interpersonal skills can make a huge difference, so get to watching and take some notes!

#4 The Crown

Okay not just because we love a royal drama, but this one’s also full of politics and power (and a little lesson on history too!). It teaches us about leadership, diplomacy, and personal sacrifice – dropping a whole heap of insights and decision-making (especially when it comes to the weight of responsibility and the tough choices leaders must make). If you’re interested in politics, leadership, or history, this show provides valuable lessons on navigating complex situations and making impactful decisions.

#5 Billions

We’re looking for a man in finance, trust fund, 6”5, blue eyes (not really, but you’ll find plenty of them in this show).

If you’ve ever wanted to get into finance, law or business – this show follows the clash between a billionaire hedge fund manager and a U.S. Attorney and is full of lessons on ambition, rivalry, and ethics. It explores themes of power, wealth, and the moral dilemmas faced in high-pressure environments – and we loved seeing how they navigated the complexities of ambition and the ethical lines professionals have to navigate on a daily basis.

#6 Master of None

Time to lighten things up, we’ve added Aziz Ansari to the list – whose show, Master of None, gives us a fresh look at careers, relationships, and identity. The show is *hilarious*, but also really thought-provoking – often reflecting on what it means to pursue your dreams while dealing with everyday challenges. It aligns perfectly with our Future-Readiness Program (talking about things like following your passions, work-life balance and managing the ups and downs) – and is the perfect binge for when you’re figuring out your path in life and career.

#7 Abstract: The Art of Design

Ever wondered how the top designers go about their craft? This series follows some of the top architecture, graphic design, and more to show you their creative processes, problem-solving skills, and what feels like a never-ending pursuit of perfection. If you’re thinking about a career in design (or the arts!), this one will inspire you in a massive way. If you’re not into the creative side of things, it’s still an awesome watch to highlight the importance of creativity and innovation in solving real-world problems and showcases how good design can actually make everyone’s lives better.

#8 Mad Men

It feels like everyone on planet Earth has seen Mad Men – but if you haven’t, it’s time to add it to your watch list. The show is set in 1960s New York and the cut-throat world of advertising. It follows Don Draper and his colleagues, covering topics like creativity, persuasion, and resilience. It’s a great watch for anyone interested in marketing, business, or creative fields, showing us all how we can craft compelling messages and navigate a competitive environment – which are lessons we can apply to any career, not just those in the advertising and business world!

#9 Narcos

Let us be clear, this is definitely not us telling you that Narcos is great inspiration for a good career path as a drug kingpin. Ignoring the questionable career choices, the show is about all things strategy, negotiation, and risk management – and the high stakes that can come with decision-making (and yes, we talk about that in the program too!). If you’re wanting to build a career that requires you to have a strategic mindset, this one’s a definite must-view.

#10 Parks and Recreation

Last but definitely not least on the list is one of our favourite feel-good comedies: Parks and Rec. It’s set in the quirky world of a local government, and is full of lessons as the workers navigate bureaucracy, teamwork, and community engagement. While it’s good for a laugh, it’s also a great hit of inspiration to remind you that even in the face of bureaucracy, you can make a difference – and a little bit of hard work and dedication can really create positive change in any career.
